WATCH: Old Christians to celebrate 60th Anniversary with renaming of club grounds

Inner city GAA club Old Christians are 60 years old in 2022 and are renaming their grounds in Rathbane in honour of founding member John Power who passed away two years ago.

The club have been unable to honour John properly due to Covid 19 but finally have the chance to do so this weekend 8th and 9th of July.

The festivities begin on Friday evening with a mass in memory of deceased members that will be followed by the unveiling of the ‘Pairc de Paor’ sign entering the grounds.

Old Christians will then host a family fun day on the Saturday afternoon that will include underage games and a junior hurling challenge against Clare’s Sixmilebridge. All the info can be found below.

Old Christians were formed in 1962 by the Christian Brothers of CBS Sexton Street and won the County Senior Football Championship in their first year.

They become the first Limerick club to win the famed Feile na nGael in 1972 and have had countless players represent Limerick over the years including 1973 All-Ireland winner Bernie Hartigan and Ger Hegarty.

In the below video, Bernie talks about the club that he has been involved in since its inception.
