“We think it could have been a victory” | Galtee Gael’s manager Dan McCarthy laments late draw against Kildimo-Pallaskenry

Galtee Gaels had the chance to secure a quarter-final place had they won the game.

Two teams that are gunning for the third place spot in the SFC did battle over the weekend, with nothing separating Kildimo-Pallaskenry and Galtee Gaels last Saturday as their match ended 1-14 each.

The game was Galtee Gaels’ to lose, with a healthy six point lead shortly after half-time putting one foot into the quarter-final round for the side.

However, KP fought back and were able to salvage a draw in the end with a Peter Nash goal guiding them to a comeback.

It will feel like dropped points for Galtee Gaels and despite securing their place in the championship for another season, manager Dan McCarthy feels they should have won the game.

“We think it could have been a victory but I suppose there was times in the game we did live a charmed life.

“We showed great character to come back and stay in the game and we forged ahead. We thought we had built a big enough lead to just keep them at arm’s length but they got the goal at the right time.”

A win would have sealed the fate of all six sides in the group as a Galtee win would have guaranteed their progression alongside St Kierans and Adare.

The side’s fate now lies in the final round, with three sides sitting on three points in the middle of the table. Galtee Gaels will face Ballylanders, who are yet to win a game this season but McCarthy doesn’t see it as an easy fixture in the slightest.

“Whether that’ll happen or not (qualify for the knockouts), I’m not sure, we’ll be disappointed if we don’t. We’ve three weeks to prepare for our game against our rivals Ballylanders and who knows what’ll happen there but they won’t hand it to us on a plate either.
