Limerick name 37-man Minor Hurling Squad for 2023 Championship

Waterford host Limerick in that opener in the Fraher Fields with the minor championship taking the same format as the senior.

Limerick Minor Hurling manager Evan Loftus has named a 37-man squad for the 2023 season which kicks off on April 21 when they take on Waterford in the first round of the Munster Championship.

Loftus has named Dromin Athlaaca Banogue’s Sean Morrissey as team captain with Monaleen’s Dara Ferland as vice-captain.

There are a number of last year’s side remaining with Tadhg Boddy (Bruff), Shane O’Grady (Doon), Darren Collopy (Murroe Boher), John O’Keeffe (Na Piarsaigh) and Diarmuid Lyons (Newcastle West) involved from last year’s team.

Waterford host Limerick in that opener in the Fraher Fields with the minor championship taking the same format as the senior with the Treaty at home to Clare and Cork with a trip to Tipperary.

Loftus has also named an extensive backroom team with coaches Alan Kelly (Templeglantine) & Stephen Walsh (Glenroe) and Tony Power (Monaleen) as selector. Shane O’Neill (Ballybricken Bohermore) is the goalkeeper coach while Darragh Droog (Mungret St. Pauls) is the teams’ S&C. Mike Cotter (Bruree) is the performance analysis while Brian Sexton (Bruree) is stats.

Kitman is Darragh Bennis (Patrickswell). The Liaison Officer is Kevin McGuinness (Clonlara- Clare). Patrick Jones (Hospital Herbertstown) is sports psychologist. Physio is Cillian Tierney (Churchill-Kerry)

Limerick were last Munster champions in 2020 when they secured a back-to-back of titles. The team captain on that day was Adam English as he went on to win a first All-Ireland senior medal last year.

In the 2022 Munster minor championship, Limerick were beaten by Waterford in the quarter-final after reaching the stage by virtue of victory over Kerry in Kilmallock.
