Limerick sixth in the Tailteann Cup Outright Odds

Limerick are one of two teams to have competed in Division 2 of the NFL this season and are joined by promoted sides Cavan and Fermanagh as top seeds.

The second annual Tailteann Cup kicks off this weekend with two games in each of the four groups. For the first time Limerick will be one of the teams competing for the second tier All-Ireland Championship.

Mark Fitzgerald’s side begin their campaign against Longford this Saturday evening in the TUS Gaelic Grounds at 6pm. Next week they travel to Carlow before a clash with Wicklow in a neutral venue.

Limerick are one of two teams to have competed in Division 2 of the NFL this season and are joined by promoted sides Cavan and Fermanagh as top seeds.

However, last year’s Munster finalists are only sixth in Paddy Power’s odds where they are priced at 9/1. Cavan are the heavy favourites at 2/1, clear of both Down and Meath who can be got at 11/2. Meath and Offaly are both at 7/1. Laois are next on the list at 16/1 while New York are the lowest ranked of the 17 sides at 250/1.

The favourites this time around reached the decider of the maiden championship where they were somewhat surprisingly beaten by Westmeath who compete in the Sam Maguire this year.

The top four teams in each group qualify for the quarter-finals with second placed into the preliminary quarters. The three best third placed teams also qualify for the last 12 alongside New York. The bottom four sides are eliminated from the competition.
