While Kiely is fully aware of the threat the Rebels face to his side, he is excited to be involved in a game of such magnitude.
John Kiely has emphasised the importance of the supporters ahead of this Sunday’s crucial Munster Championship clash with Cork. Both sides head into the game in desperate need of a win to keep their Championship hopes alive, and the Limerick boss knows how crucial the crowd could be come Sunday in the must win encounter.
The Treaty have had an incredible few years, winning four of the last five All-Ireland series, as well as the last four Munster Championships. Limerick have been utterly dominant under Kiely, but they saw their 17-game championship unbeaten record snapped at the hands of Clare at the end of April. It is the first dip this Limerick side has really shown in the last five years, and the support will be needed to rally the Shannonsiders over the line on Sunday says the Galbally native.
“We have great support, Cork have great support, it will be all required. These boys have given them a lot these last number of years and supporters have been on this journey with us.”
While Kiely is fully aware of the threat the Rebels face to his side, he is excited to be involved in a game of such magnitude. Travelling to the TUS Gaelic Grounds this weekend will be a Cork team with a bit of belief following their league win in February but also tension with the loser eliminated from the reckoning.
Cork come into the game with an identical Munster record to Limerick this campaign: one win, one draw, one loss, all to the same opponents. The Limerick boss knows the threat Pat Ryan’s side will bring to the table, but he and the side are excited for a “tough game.”
“Tough game of course it will be, it’s going to all be on the table next weekend, isn’t that we’re all involved in this thing for, to go after those types of games and to have those types of games.”
The conclusion of Sunday’s encounter will be an unusual one for either Cork or Limerick with both making it out of the Munster round robin since its inception back in 2018. With Tipp and Clare safely through to the All-Ireland series, only one more can join them with the provincial heavyweights preparing for a titanic battle.
With neither hitting full form as of yet, small margins could well decide this one as Limerick look to continue and incredible “journey.”
