There is more time for gold for the Limerick native as she prepares for the 400m freestyle and 200m individual medley later in the week.
Limerick native Roisin Ni Rian claimed gold at the Para Swimming World Championships on Thursday evening with a stunning swim.
The Drombanna native, who represented Ireland at the Paralympic Games in 2021, recorded a PB of 01:06:62 to edge out er nearest competitor by just 0.09 seconds in the 100m backstroke.
An ecstatic Ni Rian spoke of he delight to claim the gold after just missing out on the same medal in the 100m butterfly.
“I really don’t know what to say to be honest, I’m absolutely delighted with that swim. Very unexpected tonight but it’s a lovely surprise.
“I think after that 100m breaststroke I kind of felt like I had something to prove after missing the bronze by just a half a second so I’m glad that I was able to come out tonight and prove that.”
As a 16-year-old, Ni Rian competed in five different finals across the 2021 Paralympic games with gold ultimately eluding her despite recording a number of PBs.
However, her performances in Manchester will make her one of the favourites in Paris next summer.
