South Liberties’ goal rush secures safety as Garryspillane fall to relegation

Barry Nash and Tom Ryan both bagged a double with Anthony Nash rounding out his club career with a trademark penalty late on.

South Liberties secured their senior status for 2024 whilst condemning Garryspillane to the premier intermediate ranks on Thursday evening.

A goal rush from the East side guaranteed safety as they picked up a first win of the campaign by virtue of a 7-13 to 2-18 result in Adare.

Barry Nash and Tom Ryan both bagged a double with Anthony Nash rounding out his club career with a trademark penalty late on.

The result ends Garryspillane’s five year stint in the top tier as they return to the premier intermediate grade having picked up just one point in this campaign.

Tom Ryan got South Liberties off to the perfect start in Adare but Callum Sheahan goaled for the Bouncers to tie things up at 1-6 apiece.

A minute later Barry Nash restored the gap from a 21-yard free. The All-Star added his second shortly after with Darragh Godfrey following suit to leave it 4-7 to 1-9 at the interval.

The teams traded points following the resumption but the game was put to bed with twenty to play, Nash feeding Ryan who expertly flicked past the onrushing keeper to make it a 12-point cushion.

Anthony Nash added a sixth goal while Barry Cooney rounded out the goalscoring. Colin Ryan had a late consolation goal for the Bouncers but it was far too little too late as Liberties celebrated their safety.
