Darren Nwankwo and Robbie Lynch become first Treaty United Carelon Academy players to sign pro deals

Nwankwo and Lynch become the first men’s players from the Treaty United Carelon Academy to sign on pro-terms, having enjoyed successful breakthrough seasons last year.

Treaty United have announced that Darren Nwankwo and Robbie Lynch have signed part-time professional contracts with the club.

In a landmark move for the club, Nwankwo and Lynch become the first men’s players from the Treaty United Carelon Academy to sign on pro-terms, having enjoyed successful breakthrough seasons last year.

Having made his senior debut in 2022, 2023 saw Nwankwo make a name for himself at senior level as he made over twenty appearances for Tommy Barrett’s team whilst also helping the MU19 side to reach a Shield Final.

Lynch received his first team berth in May of last year at home to Galway United and featured five times that season, with his goal-line block at home to Kerry FC being one of the most memorable moments of the year.

Treaty United Senior Men’s Manager Barrett was delighted to secure the pair’s signatures, as he prepares his side for their First Division opener at home to Cobb Ramblers.

“Robbie and Darren are two young local players that got plenty of experience last year and did very well, and we’re hoping they can continue to develop this year. They’re two really good young players and at 17 and 18 they are only going to get better.”

Club CEO Ciara McCormack also spoke of her excitement with the news, as she stressed that the club’s new ownership are determined on “building the youth players in the club”.

“We’re really excited to have Darren and Robbie become the first academy players that we’ve ever signed to part-time pro contracts. We said coming in that we will be focusing on and building the youth players in the club, and this is an important first step to follow through with that commitment. Both players have shown immense potential and ability, and we are looking forward to seeing where the next few years take them.”
