UL Bohemians and Bruff advance in Munster Senior Cup

Friday night saw good wins for UL Bohemians and Bruff in the Munster Senior Cup.

Having suffered a defeat in the Charity Cup to the same opposition last weekend, Christy Neilan must have though history was about to repeat itself as Nenagh surged into a 13-0 lead before half time.

The scores coming courtesy of a push over try which scrum half Nick Irwin dotted down as well as two penalties from Clayton Stewart.

UL Bohemians would have know that their first half showing wasn’t up to snuff and set about rectifying that early in the second half when winger Ger O’Connor outpaced the Nenagh defence to get on the end of a testing Robbie Burke kick.

Nenagh responded with a concerted spell of pressure but failed to put points on the board. As the clock ticked towards the last quarter, provider turned scorer as Bourke picked off a Nenagh pass to canter home and give his side the lead for the first time.

It was a lead the Limerick side would not surrender as Burke notched two more penalties to steer UL Bohemians to a hard fought 18-13 win. The victory sets up a quarter final with the winners of Midleton V Old Crescent (Towns Park, Midleton, 2pm Saturday).

In Friday night’s other game Owen Cahill’s Bruff side advance to the semi final with comprehensive 24-0 win over Sundays Well. The county side demonstrated a marked improvement on their last outing where they shipped 55 points against Old Crescent.

Scores coming courtesy of tries from Tony Cahill, Odhran Ring and a penalty try with a David O’Grady penalty and a conversion.
