Limerick clubs represented as Munster U18 girls kick off Interpro campaign

Head Coach Eugene McCarthy has named the Munster U18 Girls side who kick off their Interprovincial campaign on Saturday 23rd September against Leinster at Ballincollig RFC (ko 2.30pm).

Stephanie Nunan of St Mary’s RFC starts, as do Ciara Clancy, Orla Curtin and Hayley Betts (Sister of Ben Betts) of Shannon RFC, their clubmate Sarah O’Connor is among the replacements.

Emily Lane, captain of the Ireland U18 Girls 7s has also been named to lead her province, into what is the second Interprovincial series of 15 a-side girls rugby.

The squad will take on Connacht at Ballinasloe in their second fixture before completing the series in Barnhall RFC against defending champions Ulster.

Speaking ahead of the Leinster match McCarthy said “the girls are looking forward to the first interpro match after putting in a long summer of intense training in various regions throughout the province.

The interpro series is now into is second year of existence and is providing a great stepping stone to progress from underage club rugby to possible selection for senior interprovincial standard and possible national stage.”

Replacements: Annie Laffan, Caroline Downey, Sarah O’Connor, Rebecca Reilly, Sarah O’Gorman, Leah Turner, Gemma Lane, Jennifer Fogarty.
