St Senan’s reach Intermediate football final

St Senans quest to return to the senior ranks in Limerick football took a massive step forward last night as they overcame Claughan 4-12 to 2-6 to reach a third Intermediate final in 4 years.

Senans started the game the much brighter of the sides and held a commanding 0-6 to 0-2 lead after 20 minutes with Claughan unable to cope with Senans movement in the forwards.

In the 22nd minute, Senans had their first goal of the game as Ollie Wallace finished off an excellently worked move to push Senans further ahead. Five minutes later James Naughton goaled for the men in yellow to put them ahead by 10 points.

Claughan responded with a point of their own before half-time and it could have been a lot better for Claughan but they were unable to convert from the penalty spot on the stroke of half time with the ball sailing harmlessly wide.

Yet, Claughan rallied at the beginning of the second and were rewarded when Adrian Healy found the net in the 35th minute. The sides then exchanged scores as Claughan reduced the gap to five points with 15 minutes remaining.

Yet, St Senans regained control of the game and scored 2-4 in the closing 8 minutes to stroll to victory. Senans final two goals coming courtesy of Conor Mullane and Seamus McSweeney to secure their place in the final.

For Claughan it’s back to the drawing board to assess what might have been. St Senans now await the winner of the other semi final clash between Gerald Griffins and Galbally to see who they will meet in the final.
