Some Fresh injury concerns for Munster following Glasgow defeat

Some players picked up knocks in Munster’s first loss of the season on Friday night.

There are a number on new injury concern’s for Rassie Erasmus and his coaching staff today following a tough loss at the hands of  the Glasgow Warriors on Friday. Sean O’Connor was substituted early on in the Conference A tie after suffering a neck injury and will be further monitored by the medical team in the next few days.

South African Jean Kleyn, who has had a brilliant start to the season, unfortunately has to see a specialist over the neck injury he too suffered at Scotstoun, in the next few days.

Jack O’Donoghue and Darren Sweetnam both failed HIA’s against the Warriors and will now begin to follow their back to play protocols this week.

James Cronin, who wasn’t involved on Friday due to a small knee injury picked up agains Osprey’s is expected to be back to full health very soon.

Speaking about the injuries today Erasmus said

“Jean kleyn bumped his neck again so we’ll scan him tomorrow.”

“Sean O’Connor also neck, i think he might miss this weekend but should be ready next weekend”

“Our two concussions on Jack O’Donoghue and Darren Sweetnam, they’ll probably be from Wednesday when they start training.”

“Tyler got a bit of a bump to the knee but i think he’ll be ok.”

Mark Flanagan, who Munster signed from Saracens as second row injury cover, joined up with the province today and will be involved for the next three months until his short term contract is up.

On the long term injury list, Gerbrandt Grobler, Conor Oliver, Dan Goggin, Ronan O’Mahony, Dave O’Callaghan and Darren O’Shea are all following their respective rehab programmes.

Many other injured players made their return to action with valuable game time over the weekend as they represented their clubs in Ulster Bank League action. Mike Sherry played for the second week in a row for his side Garryowen on Saturday and scored a try as they defeated Buccaneers in Dooradoyle. Sam Arnold also lined out at centre for the hosts with Bill Johnston, brother Dave and the academy’s Liam Coombes also lining out for Conan Doyle’s men.

Gavin Coombes started at number eight for Young Munster on Saturday as they went down 25-5 to Lansdowne at the Aviva. Hooker Kevin O’Byrne lined out for Cork Constitution as they lost out to Terenure on a scoreline of 39-35 in Dublin.

Academy prop Brian Scott was part of a Dolphin side that got their first win of the season against Ballymena on Saturday. Elsewhere in division 1B, Duncan Casey and Stephen Fitzgerald started for Shannon as they made it two from two this season with a 18-3 win over Old Belvedere at Thomond Park whilst the academy’s Conor Fitzgerald and Jack Stafford started at half backs for Tom Hayes’ side.

Returning from a long injury lay off, JJ Hanrahan made the trip to Naas on Saturday ad started at out half for UL Bohs’ as they lost to former munster player Johne Murphy’s men 28-13.
