Dublin’s All Ireland winning ladies footballers must raise funds for team holiday

Dublin’s ladies footballers are setting out to raise funds in order to pay for a team holiday following their recent All-Ireland win.

The Dublin men’s side do get a team holiday paid for as part of a grant from Croke Park, in fact the men’s finalists from both codes will earn a much deserved trip away, however the Jakies will need to look after themselves if they want to celebrate their achievement as a group abroad.

Fiona Hudson and Niamh McEvoy appeared on the Ray D’Arcy Show on RTÉ on Saturday night, alongside their partners Paul Flynn and Dean Rock.

“We’re hoping to go away – we’re starting with a bit of fundraising now. I suppose it doesn’t come with the package like it does with the guys,” revealed Hudson.

Her team mate McEvoy said: “We have never been on a team holiday as a group so we’re going to look into doing a bit of fundraising and hopefully we’ll get some support.”

There’s no doubt that the men’s game grabs the lions share of attention from spectators, however this year the ladies football final broke the record for the highest attendence for a women’s sporting event in 2017 as 46,286 took in the game at Croke Park.

With interest on the rise in ladies football, if the Croke Park grant can’t cover some of the cost, then possibly shirt sponsors AIG might want to chip in and help send the Jackies on a much needed vacation.
