Ahane secure senior Camogie honours at Killeedy’s expense

Ahane claimed a first title since 2018 as they condemned Killeedy to another final defeat.

Ahane are the 2022 Limerick Senior Camogie Champions after seeing off Killeedy in the decider.

Niamh Mulcahy hit 0-9 while Aine Reynolds bagged the crucial first half goal. That green flag had the 2018 champions 1-5 to 0-7 ahead at the interval.

After an even first half, Ahane fired out of the blocks in the second period, Mulcahy hitting a brace from play as they found six of the first seven scores.

Lisa Scanlon, who had 0-7 including the first three scores of the game, had Killeedy’s ninth with twenty minutes to play to make it 1-7 to 0-8.

Ahane had scores from the bench with Fiona Herbet and Shauna Darcy making it 1-11 to 0-8 after 48 minutes.

A pair of Mulcahy frees had Ahane seven to the good and despite a late Aisling Scanlon goal, the East side ran out deserving winners.

Judith Mulcahy was named player of the match with the centre back even chipping over a score in a dominant display.

For Killeedy it is a second successive final loss while Ahane’s season also comes to an end with no Munster championship for the Limerick kingpins.

Nonetheless it brought a four year wait for county honours to an end.

Scorers for Ahane: Niamh Mulcahy (0-9, 0-7 frees), Aine Reynolds (1-0), Niamh Brennan, Judith Mulcahy, Fiona Herbert, Shauna Darcy (all 0-1)

Scorers for Killeedy: Lisa Scanlon (0-7, 0-4 frees), Aisling Scanlon (1-2)
