Aisling Annacotty Announce Derek McCarthy as head of Sports Science

Aisling Annacotty have announced the appointment of Derek McCarthy as Head of Sports Science and Athletic Development at the club with immediate affect.

McCarthy was unveiled alongside Director of Football Mike Kerley at the clubs grounds. McCarthy will take up a full-time position with the Limerick District League club.

The club stated on their official social media pages:

“Aisling Annacotty AFC is delighted to announce the full time appointment of Derek McCarthy as Head of Sports Science and Athletic Development

McCarthy played League of Ireland football for Limerick FC, Galway United and Waterford United during a 10 year career while he was also on the coaching staff under Martin Russell in 2015 and 2016.

The Kilmallock native holds a masters degree in Sports Science and worked with the Jordan National team as well as working at Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End.

The club are opening a gym in the coming weeks and they say the appointment is timely.

“Reporting to the Director of Football Mike Kerley, Derek’s appointment coincides with Aisling Annacotty launching a new club gym in the next 8 weeks which will focus on developing the strength and conditioning of all players at the club.”
