The final of the FAI Junior Cup is due to take place at the Aviva Stadium this Saturday at 5pm between Sheriff YC and St. Michaels.
However, the final has been thrown into doubt following news that Aisling Annacotty have submitted two appeals to the Football Association of Ireland following last Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Sheriff. As of yet, the grounds for the objections remain unclear.
It adds to the chaotic nature of this year’s FAI Junior Cup competition. The Regional and Sheriff YC saga took over six weeks to reach a conclusion following several appeals.
Both Annacotty and Sheriff were only informed on Friday that they would face off on Sunday afternoon in the semi-final. Also, Aisling were told an hour beforehand that the game would take place on astrotruf but after remonstrations, it took place on the grass pitch at AUL.
Before all of this, Annacotty themselves were at the centre of an objection from quarter-final opponents Westport United, who they beat 2-1 in Mayo. Westport lost their appeal and Annacotty rightfully contested the semi-final.
The final will almost certainly be delayed once again as a result of today’s news.
