Treaty United FC have announced the signing of centre-back Anthony O’Donnell ahead of the 2023 League of Ireland season. O’Donnell returns to the Limerick club following a year away due to injury and a brief spell with Ringmahon Rangers in the Munster Senior League.
The robust central defender will be a key addition to Tommy Barrett in an area in which the team were lacking previously. Callum McNamara excelled in the role in the second half of last season but has since joined Galway United while his central defensive partner in 2022 was Sean Guerins who has yet to re-sign.
O’Donnell will be a welcome addition as he was a key component during the 2021 season which culminated in a play-off defeat to UCD over two legs with the former Cobh man scoring in the second leg as Treaty fell just short of progression. Scoring goals proved to be a key strength of O’Donnell’s as he scored 6 goals from set-pieces throughout the 2021 campaign and that will be a huge asset.
The club announced the news on their official Twitter and Facebook pages tonight.
O’Donnell was delighted to return after a year dogged by injuries in 2022.
