Ardscoil Rís leave it late but kick off Harty Cup season with win over Cashel

The All-Ireland champions were made to work for their victory in Cappamore today.

Ardscoil Rís kicked off their 2022/23 Dr Harty Cup campaign with a thrilling 3-12 to 1-15 win over Cashel Community College in Cappamore today.

Shane Gleeson proved the difference as his last minute goal stole victory in injury time for the North Circular road school.

With a draw on the cards, the Adare hurler pounced on Cian Scully’s delivery as last year’s Munster finalists got off to the perfect start.

Scully himself was crucial for the All-Ireland champions as he hit 1-6 over the hour with 1-2 coming from play, including the games opening goal.

Diarmuid Stritch had their second after 13 minutes with the Limerick school moving seven clear.

But led by Ronan Connolly, Cashel hit back and were level at 2-6 to 1-9 at the break with Adam Daly grabbing their goal.

The sides exchanged the lead throughout an absorbing second half with Daly levelling in injury time following Scully’s late score.

Yet, there was enough time for Ardscoil to launch their final assault on goal with Gleeson the hero.

Ardscoil Rís will play St Flannan’s College Ennis on November 16 where anything other than a defeat will see them through to the knockout stages.

Cashel, who beat Flannan’s in the opener, must hope Ardscoil get the job done or face elimination.
