Brave Monagea fall in Munster Ladies Intermediate Football Final

Limerick champions Monagea fell at the final hurdle in the Munster championship losing to the Kerry kingpins.

Monagea were beaten by Castleisland Desmonds in Saturday’s Munster Ladies Intermediate Football Final in Mallow.

In the end, the margin was a solitary point as Castleisland secured a 1-5 to 0-7 win.

A 50th minute goal proved the difference between the sides as Monagea struggled to score in the second half.

The sides exchanged scores early on with Monagea’s coming from a placed ball. Their first from play came after seven minutes but Castleisland Desmonds responded immediately.

The Kerry outfit took the lead shortly after but again Monagea replied to leave it all square 0-3 to 0-3 at the first waterbreak.

The Limerick side had a quickfire double to start the second quarter but those would prove to be the final ones of the half with Monagea taking a two point lead into the dressing rooms.

Monagea found the first score of the second half to move three clear but the West outfit didn’t trouble the scoreboard until injury time.

In the meantime, Castleisland kicked the only other score of the quarter with Monagea leading 0-6 to 0-4 at the final waterbreak.

The next score was the crucial one as the Kerry side found the net with ten to play to push clear of their opponents.

They added to their score on 53 before Monagea found their seventh score. But it wasn’t enough as Castleisland claimed the provincial title.
