Treaty United manager Tommy Barrett caught up with Sporting Limerick’s Adrian Finnin to discuss Friday’s trip to Bray and the current state of the first team squad.
The Limerick side currently sit in third place in the First Division following their loss 4-1 to Cabinteely last week.
Friday’s opponents Bray Wanderers sit three points behind Barrett’s men in fourth place. They’re on a fine run of league form, being unbeaten in the last seven so a tough battle lies ahead for Treaty United at The Carlisle Grounds come 19:30 on Friday.
Speaking on the challenge, Barrett knows a result will have to be earned the hard way.
“It’s going to be a difficult task. Bray are on a good run but we have got results against them. We were probably lucky to do so in the last two games so it’s going to be difficult for us up there.”
The sides have faced off against each other twice this season with a stalemate being played out in March and Treaty getting the better of Bray on a scoreline of 2-0 in May.
Barrett’s men will be looking to turn the tide on a poor result from last week. A game that saw Clyde O’Connell receive a contentious red card.
“We’ve been fairly consistent as well. We got 19 points from 27 available in this series. It was only Cabinteely, Galway and Shels we dropped points against so hopefully it doesn’t turn into two or three games without a result.”
“We don’t want to talk too much about referees, we made silly errors, we gave away two sloppy goals before but we were pushing in the game and it did look harsh to me. We have a bit of a reputation for being a team that is ill-disciplined now and maybe the rest of the league is looking at that and they’re getting out the cards very quickly. ” Tommy said.
Squad Update
Defender Anthony O’Donnell looks set to return to the side following a short spell out, a relief for the team ‘especially with Clyde’s suspension’.
In other team news, Matt McKevitt looks set to miss out on Friday but Red Hanlon should be fit enough to play.
Meanwhile, Aaron Fitzgerald left the club this week, with Barrett citing injury issues as the main reason but not closing the door on a return to Treaty United at some stage.
“He’s still injured. I had a discussion with him, there was a couple of clubs interested in him and we said that he might be better off going to get game time. By the time he was going to be coming back with us, we’d have four or five matches left and to get up to that fitness level, it’d be very difficult.”
We wish him well, Aaron is a good player and the door is always open for him to probably come back.”
