BREAKING: Champions Limerick dominate as 2021 PwC All-Star nominations announced

The presentation of the PwC All-Star awards will take place on December 10 in a televised ceremony that will be in line with Covid-19 restrictions and will be confirmed in due course.

For the second time in four years, every Limerick player that started the All-Ireland final has been nominated for an All-Star award.

Earlier this year, the Shannonisders dominance over the hurling landscape saw them retain their All-Ireland title for the first ever time as they beat Cork 3-32 to 1-22.

The Hurler of the Year will come from Limerick also with Cian Lynch, Sean Finn and Kyle Hayes up for the award. Lynch is favoured to win the award for the second time, which would see him become only the second man to do so, joining three-time winner Hhenry Shefflin.

It is a first HOTY nomination for current All-Stars Finn and Hayes. Gearoid Hegarty is the current Hurler of the Year.

In 2018, Limerick had 15 players among the nominations when they ended a 45-year wait for Liam MacCarthy while they had 14 last Winter after reclaiming their title.

Last year Limerick equalled the record for most All-Stars in a season with Finn grabbing his third on the trot, Lynch, Dan Morrissey and Aaron Gillane picked up a second award while Nickie Quaid, Diarmaid Byrnes, Hayes, Tom Morrissey and Hegarty were chosen for the first time.

All of those are nominated again alongside Barry Nash (2nd nomination), Declan Hannon (5th), Darragh O’Donovan (2nd), William O’Donoghue (3rd), Peter Casey (2nd) and Seamus Flanagan (3rd). Of that five, none are yet to pick up an award outside of Hannon who was chosen in 2018.

The full county breakdown for the hurling team is Limerick 15, Cork nine, Waterford seven, Kilkenny five, three each for Clare and Tipperary and one each for Dublin, Laois and Wexford.
