Cappamore cyclist to represent Ireland in UCI Cyclocross World Championships

Congratulations to 16 year old Cappamore cyclist Lucy O’Donnell, who will represent Ireland in the UCI Cyclocross U23 World Championship in Denmark on Sunday 3rd February.

Lucy had a stand out year in 2018, winning many races at home and putting in super performances abroad. As a youth racer Lucy took many national championships along the way, but now the sixteen year old has moved into the junior ranks and already tasted success by taking a bronze medal in the Elite Women’s Cyclocross National Championship a few weeks ago along with strong performances in international racing over the winter in Belfast, Irvine and Yorkshire.

Lucy raced the UCI Cyclocross World Cup in France Pont Chateau on the 20th January, where she got to meet her hero and a  legend of cycling Marianne Vos.

Marianne went on to win the race and Lucy fought her way around the course will down on the leaders but gained valuable experience. Now Lucy steps up from U16 racing straight into an U23 Worlds. But she takes her place on the plane to Denmark having earned it in some style, with a long international career ahead if she wants it.
