Chris Hayes wins with He Knows No Fear at Leopardstown again – Weekly Racing News

Limerick/Clare Racing News

Trainer Brian McMahon followed up on the success of stable stalwart Powersbomb at the course on Sunday when Sizing Malbay took the two-and-a-half-mile handicap chase at Punchestown on Monday. Phillip Enright was again in the saddle as the 8/1 shot, owned by the Conor & Con Partnership, got the better of the Tom Gibney-trained 2/1 favourite Robin De Roost by two and three-parts of a length.

A winner at odds of 300/1 at the course last year, He Knows No Fear was again on the mark for Chris Hayes at Leopardstown on Thursday. Owned, bred and trained by Luke Comer, the four-year-old was an 11/1 chance this time and he led late on to win from the Jim Bolger-trained Theophile by a neck in the nine-furlong handicap.

Donie McInerney shared a winner with County Cork’s Michael Winters at Tramore on Friday evening. The pair landed the two-mile five-furlong handicap hurdle with the Thomas McNulty-owned Arizona Flyer. The 16/1 shot got the better of a great tussle with Christmas Jumper from the final hurdle and just prevailed by a nose.

At Kilbeggan on Sunday, Croom trainer Andrew McNamara sent out Daicheadacuig to win the second division of the opportunity maiden hurdle. A second winner of the season for County Carlow conditional Jack Foley, the Brian Mortell-owned 7/1 chance easily beat the Henry de Bromhead-trained Cottie, the 6/4 favourite, by six lengths. Newmarket-On-Fergus trainer Aengus King made a welcome return to the winners’ enclosure as Fill The Tank scored a five-length victory in the handicap chase. Ridden by Cathal Landers, the 6/1 chance asserted early on the run-in and went clear to win from the Paul Nolan-trained Mister Bells.

Speaking of his first winner on the racecourse since Capture The Drama won at Clonmel in December 2018, King said,

“He won his point-to-point and didn’t progress from it at the time so he’s well overdue his win. I only have a few as a permit holder but all the horses in the yard seem to be coming right at the moment.”
