Monaleen and Kildimo Pallaskenry face off in Bruff on Sunday, with the winner earning a spot in the final four.
The knockout stages of the Limerick Senior Football Championship are fast approaching, with both quarter-final ties to be played over the weekend.
Monaleen and Kildimo Pallaskenry face off in Bruff on Sunday, with the winner earning a spot in the final four where they will meet the defending champions Newcastle West.
Monaleen are seeking a place in the semi-finals for the third successive year, losing to eventual champions NCW on both of those occasions. For KP, this will be a second crack off the quarters since promotion.
Interestingly, the sides last championship meeting came in 2020 when they faced off in the Intermediate ranks. However, it was Monaleen’s second side that competed after they were promoted from Junior the previous season. KP came out on top in the contest, but were eliminated at the quarter final stage that year.
The following year they went all the way to earn promotion to the top tier, where they reached the quarter finals in their maiden year.
Kildimo Pallaskenry started their campaign like a train with three successive wins to book their knockout berth early. Those wins came against St Kierans, Clauaghaun and Oola but subsequent defeats have followed against fellow quarter-finalists Fr Caseys and defending champions Newcastle West.
And that preparation for this Sunday contrast to that of Monaleen who produced an impressive group stage, picking up four wins from their five games, but were made settle for second place following their opening round loss to Adare. Impressively, they only conceded two goals as they navigated the group, one to Ballysteen and the other to Galtee Gaels, picking up four successive wins in that time.
As such, Monaleen will come into this clash as favourites, having been unlucky not to top their own group, but they must be wary of this KP side, who have shown what they are about in recent years.
The bookies make Monaleen 1/3 favourites while KP are 3/1 outsiders.
Monaleen are six time SFC champions, with their last title coming in 2016, while Kildimo Pallaskenry have never won the championship. However, they are a team on the rise and cannot be counted out.
