Clinical Garryowen ease to win over Shannon at Thomond Park

Garryowen bounced back from a shock defeat to UCC last time out to earn a comfortable win over Shannon in their Division 1A derby at Thomond Park.

Conan Doyle’s side ran in for five tries in the 28-7 victory against Shannon under lights last night.

Liam Coombes scored two tries for the Light Blues, while Diarmuid Barron, Kevin Seymour and Peadar Collins went in for one each.

Coombes opened the scoring with a try on seven minutes and Garryowen’s lead was then added to soon after by Peadar Collins.

Garryowen were then dealt a blow when Alex Wootton was stretchered off but they recovered to lead at the break 18-0 thanks to Barron and Seymour tries.

They continued their dominance after the break when Coombes’ second effort bagged the try bonus point seven minutes into the second half.

Collins scored Garryowen’s fifth try 15 minutes from time. Ronan Coffey went in for Shannon’s solitary try late on but it was a sobering night for ‘The Parish”.

On Saturday in Division 1A, Young Munster went down to a 31-5 defeat to leaders Cork Con at Tom Clifford Park.

Derek Corcoran gave Munsters the perfect start with a fifth minute try but Con responded a converted JJ O’Neill try to take the lead. A Conor Kindregan try then gave Con a 12-5 half time advantage.

Con then took firm control when Rob Jermyn added a third try that Aidan Moynihan converted. The bonus point was then secured late on through Greg Higgins. Jermyn went in once more at the death to give Con a 31-5 win.

In Division 2A, Old Crescent followed on their win over UL Bohs last week with a very impressive 49-17 win over Blackrock, while Bohs had a superb away 23-19 victory against Dolphin.

In Division 2C, Thomond had a great 15-11 win in their away game with Tullamore. Bruff and a 32-17 win over Malahide at Kilballyowen Park.
