Colaiste Na Trocaire V Sacred Heart School – Preview

Colaiste Na Trocaire Girls soccer team play their FAI Schools Senior Girls All-Ireland Final tomorrow against Sacred Heart School Westport.

The West Limerick side made the final by getting past Presentation Secondary School of Kilkenny two weeks ago on a score line of 2-0 with Phoenix- Mulcaire Shire and Eadaoin Lyons netting the goals.

CNT reached the Munster final after comprehensively beating St Fanahans of Mitchelstown 6-0 in the Munster semi Final in early January. Previous to that they beat Presentation Secondary School, Thurles to win the FAI Schools Senior Girls Munster Cup final by one goal to nil.

The victory over the Tipperary school was all the sweeter as Thurles had beaten the Rathkeale school 2-0 in the Munster Final Senior final and 1-0 in the in the FAI Schools Junior Girls final the previous year.

CNT are coached by former Limerick Footballer and current Drom/Broadford star Killian Phair and have joint captains in Eadaoin Lyons and Kate Geary.

Their final opponents and Connacht Champions – Sacred Heart School – have been brilliant this year, beating their archrivals Convent of Mercy, Roscommon 2-1 in an extremely close all derby decider.

Their National Cup semi-final saw them come up against a strong Carndonagh Community School. They eventually won out 2-1 with a last-gasp winner from Anne Sheridan, who struck a fantastic goal with extra time looming, to leave Carndonagh distraught.

Jenny Chambers had equalised right after Tara O’Connor netted the opener for Carndonagh with over a quarter of an hour played in the match.

The Mayo side are coached by Seamas MacEachmharcaigh with assistant coach Declan Moran and captained by Saoirse Ludden.

The final to be played tomorrow Tuesday will take place at Home Farm FC, Whitehall, Dublin at 1pm. It promises to be a fantastic game as both sides will be gunning to win their first all Ireland senior soccer title.
