Collingwood Cup begins in Limerick this week

The Rustlers IUFU Collingwood Cup will take place in Limerick this week with the best third level institutions battling it out for soccer supremacy. The quarter finals begin on Monday and the final is scheduled to take place at the Markets Field, the home of Limerick soccer and the current home to the city’s senior soccer team Limerick FC. The competition makes a return to the University of Limerick after seven years absence.

The hosts will face Maynooth in the quarter final on the 4g pitch with a 2pm kick off. The University of Limerick are looking to win the competition for the first time.

Holders UCD face Mary Immaculate College, led by former Limerick FC manager Noel O’Connor, in the first round of the competition. The winners will face Queens University of Belfast.Dublin City University take on University College Cork while NUI Galway or Ulster University face Royal College of Surgeons in the other quarter finals.

The University of Limerick, led by manager Ian Sullivan, have a very talented squad with Limerick FC players Sean McSweeney and Adam Foley present. Current Pike Rovers player Ian Fletcher will captain the side. Jack Lynch, son of another former Limerick FC manager Tommy, is also among the squad.
