Crescent College Comprehensive go in search for All-Ireland glory this week when their senior girls hockey team take part in the Kate Russell Hockey Tournament in St Andrews College this Thursday and Friday.
Crescent will play four games against the Leinster champions and hosts St Andrews, South East champions and holders Kilkenny College, Connacht’s Coláíste Iognáid and Ulster’s Banbridge Academy over the two days.
All 10 games of The Kate Russell All-Ireland Tournament will be streamed live and exclusively by Sporting Limerick in its entirety, beginning with Crescent’s opening game against St Andrews at 9:30am on Thursday morning.
Crescent reached the tournament after beating Mount Mercy 2-1 on penalties in the Munster Final a few weeks ago. Their coach, Cathal Duggan, says that the tournament will provide a deserved victor.
“There’s no luck. You’ll have moments, but to be the best team you will have to show your colours against every team. Kilkenny College won last year and are defending champions.
“While they have lost a few they are still a savage side. St Andrews have a senior Irish international and have some brilliant defenders.
“Banbridge won it two years ago and then you have The Jes (Coláíste Iognáid) and ourselves who are the new recruits to this year’s competition.
“It’s an exceptionally high standard and I was saying that after the Munster Final. Any of the five teams can win it. On the day you will be hoping for the best, but certainly there is no hiding in this competition.”
