CBC didn’t make the same mistakes from the first contest to set up a Munster School’s Senior Cup final with PBC.
Crescent College Comprehensive’s defence of the Munster School’s Senior Cup came to an end this afternoon as they were beaten 34-29 by CBC in their semi-final replay.
A late try put some gloss on the scoreline for Comp who came up against a determined CBC who had let a large lead slip late on a week ago in the original fixture.
Two second half tries took CBC’s tally to five as they return to the final for the first time in three years when they shared the title with next week’s opponents PBC after the onset of the Covid pandemic.
A late first half penalty try gave Crescent College some hope heading into the interval as it reduced the margin to 20-12. Previously, CBC had done well to stop Ryan Godfrey down the wing with Crescent Comp edging the possession stakes in the opening 35 minutes.
Indeed the game was barely three minutes old when hooker Adam Wrona crossed for CBC’s first try of the day. That was while Crescent had a man in the bin. And the Cork side made the most of their numerical advantage with Wrona dotting down for his second three minutes later. CBC were wayward with both conversions.
The Limerick side had their first try of the afternoon through Fionn Casserley, powering over from close range in the 12th minute. But CBC had their reply from no.8 Daniel Rock to restore their lead with fly half Charlie O’Shea making it 17-5.
A penalty had them fifteen clear before the penalty try restored Crescent’s advanatage. But the Cork side were resilient in the second half to set up a repeat of the 2020 final.
