Report | Crescent College leave it late to snatch Senior Cup final spot at Bandon’s expense

Limerick’s Crescent College will be looking for their 12th Pinergy Munster Senior Schools Cup title on St Patricks Day after victory today.

Crescent College Comprehensive are into the 2022 Munster Senior School’s Cup final after a dramatic 17-15 win over Bandon Grammar school in Rosbrien today.

The Limerick side stole victory with Ruadhan Quinn completing his hat trick just before full time to snatch the win and a place in the final.

They will face PBC in the final which takes place on St Patricks Day.

Crescent and sloppy play was the story of the first half as the Limerick side piled on continued pressure. Each attack was then thwarted due to many many knock-ons and errors. Each attacking platform was short lived as the ball couldn’t stay off the deck

Bandon did have moments of there own in the first half but nothing came from any of their attacks. A shot at goal was taken but the kick dropped 10 meters before the posts.

The game went into the break all square at 0-0, but that was not to be the end of the affair as the game was lit up in the second half.

Off of the second half kick-off Crescent continued their first half form and piled on pressure. A lineout for Bandon in there own 5 meter line went pear shaped and left Crescent with a penalty in front of the try line. From a tap and go Crescent barrelled over the line for the first try of the game as Quinn dotted down. Crescent nailed the kick to add the extra two points.

Bandon replied pretty quickly with a score of their own, a tough penalty converted to redue the deficit to 7-3.

Quinn had his second and while the conversion was missed, Bandon had a simple shot at goal sail wide with the Limerick side nine clear.

Controversy occurred as Bandon had their No.8 sent off for a high shot on one of the Crescent forwards. The red card gave Crescent a unique opportunity to try capitalise but Bandon dug their heels in.

The Cork side had their first try to reduce the gap but were wayward with the conversion.

However, a clearance kick in Crescent’s 22 was charged down with Bandon retaining the ball. A crossfield kick was spilled into a Bandon shirt as they darted straight over the line for the try. The kick was converted for the extra two points making the score 15-12 to Bandon.

In the last moments of the game Crescent scrambled to try get an opportunity to steal the game, moving the ball from the left to the right of the pitch. Crescent had found themselves in Bandon’s 22 and from one side of the pitch to the other they moved the ball finding a gap in the left corner as Quinn touched down for the third time and crucial try.

Crescent missed their conversion but the game was called up shortly after with the Limerick side advancing to the final.
