Limerick native Dara Costelloe made his competitive first team debut for Burnley on Friday night in the club’s opening game of the English Championship season. The Clarets defeated Huddersfield 0-1 on the opening night. They were relegated from the Premier League last year and appointed former Manchester City player and Anderlecht manager Vincent Kompany as the club’s new manager.
Costelloe was selected in Kompany’s first team as he started the game on the right side of an attacking front three. The former Aisling Annacotty man impressed for the U-23’s since joining two years ago and played 74 minutes of the victory before being replaced. Fellow Irish man Josh Cullen is also at Burnley and was named as man of the match by Sky Sports.
Costelloe’s former club Annacotty congratulated him on their social media outlets. “Best of luck to former Aisling Annacotty player Dara Costelloe, who makes his first competitive appearance for Burnley FC tonight, in their Championship match v Huddersfield “
