Date and time set for Senior Cup final between Garryowen and UL Bohemians

The final will be played under light in Thomond Park

The Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Challenge Cup finalists have been confirmed with Garryowen and UL Bohemian set to meet at Thomond Park on Friday 12 January (kick-off 7.30pm).

It will be Garryowen’s second local derby in a week as they meet Young Munsters for a fourth time this season, in the Ulster bank league the week previous in Tom Clifford Park.

The light blues overcame Cork Constitution 23-14 in their semi-final encounter at Dooradoyle.

An inspirational display from Garryowen’s Neil Cronin led the home side to victory.

Tomas Quinlan opened the scoring with a penalty for the holders after fifteen minutes but Cronin leveled six minutes later.

Jamie McInerney put Garryowen ahead on twenty five minutes and Cronin converted for a lead they would not relinquish.

Cronin and Quinlan exchanged penalties to leave the Dooradoyle side 13-6 ahead at half time.

It was 16-9 after six minutes of the second-half with Cronin and Quinlan swapping penalties, before Cronin made sure of victory with a try and conversion on sixty one minutes.

Rob Jermyn scored a late try for Con’ but it was not enough to keep a hold of their title.

UL Bohemian secured their place in the final following a 22-8 semi-final win to Bruff.

Mike Mullally opened the scoring with a penalty for UL Bohes but Dave O’Grady leveled for the home side.

Tries from Mark Bromell and James Ryan and a Mullally conversion gave the visitors a 15-3 interval lead.

Cian Ryan scored a Bruff try to close the gap to seven points but a try from Shane Scannell converted by Mullally sent Bohes through to the final.
