Cappamore return to championship action for the first time since their defeat in last year’s Premier Intermediate final.
It will be a case of trying to go one better this year as they set out on their Premier Intermediate Championship campaign after falling at the final hurdle last year.
Declan Deere’s men ran into an impressive Mungret St Pauls side in the decider with the City side earning the promotion to the senior ranks.
But Cappamore can take solace in the fact that the three of the last four winners of the PIHC regrouped from a final loss to win promotion the following year.
Indeed, Mungret St Pauls lost the 2020 final and Deere says Cappamore have learned a “huge amount” from the defeat.
“It’s nearly nine months since that final so we have had all winter to get over it. As soon as we were back in for 2022, it was all planning ahead and forgotten about. The boys learned a huge amount from last year, a lot of players were blooded, a lot of lads got game time and a habit of winning and you can’t beat that.”
Cappamore take on Monaleen in Caherconlish at 7pm on Friday night in the opening round of the Limerick Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship.
