There were wins for three of the six Limerick outfits in their respective AIL divisions this weekend.
Young Munster and Shannon RFC marked their returns to the Energia AIL in style with wins in Division 1A after a two week hiatus.
Two late tries at College Park, saw Young Munster snatch a dramatic 25-24 win over second placed Dublin University. Dan Walsh and Conor Philips scored tries for the Limerick side who were also awarded a penalty try. Evan Cusack kicked a conversion and two penalties. The Cookies remain in fifth place following their result.
Shannon moved ahead of UCD after their 26-24 win over the Dublin Students on the back pitch at Thomond Park. Kieran Ryan, Sean McCarthy, Jamie McGarry, and Mike Cooke scored tries for Shannon who were also awarded a penalty try. Cooke kicked two conversions and a penalty. John O’Sullivan also added a penalty. Their second win of the campaign sees the Cookies move out of the relegation zone.
Meanwhile, Garryowen remain bottom of the table eight points adrift after their 47-28 away defeat by Lansdowne. Four second half tries from Brian Gleeson (2), Harry Buttimer and Jack Delaney did earn them a bonus point. Delaney converted all four tries.
Cashel moved up to second place in Division 2A after their 14-8 home win over Old Crescent. The Tipperary side led 14-3 at halftime with a try from Conor Cashman converted by Josh O’Dwyer, as well as a penalty try. Ronan McKenna kicked a penalty for Crescent and a late try from Cathal Monaghan secured a losing bonus point for the Rosbrien side.
Bottom side UL Bohemians were defeated 31-26 by Blackrock College at Annacotty. Eoin Sweeney, Paul Clancy, and Kieran O’Shea were among the UL Bohs try scorers. Harry Byrne kicked three conversions.
In Division 2C, Bruff eased their relegation worries with a 10-3 win over Sunday’s Well at Musgrave Park. Fabien Loughrey kicked a penalty to open the scoring for the ‘Well in the second half. Paul Collins levelled with a penalty and then converted a try by Warren Loulanting to secure the points.
