The news that the Monaleen man is retiring from intercounty football will be greeted with great disappointment by all followers of Limerick football, having put in numerous inspiring performances over the year.
O’Sullivan has been one of Limerick’s most consistent performers over many years and has been a true leader of the Limerick Senior Footballers.
“Donal has been a fantastic servant to Limerick GAA and has been a role model to so many present and upcoming Limerick footballers, we wish him well in his retirement and thank him for all the wonderful memories he has given to so many Limerick Football fans down through the years.”
Limerick GAA Football Chairman Wayne Fitzgerald
On the field he displayed tremendous courage and tenacity, making him arguably one of the best goalkeepers in the country over his career, and a highly reliable figure.
He acted as Limerick football captain since 2018 before sharing the captaincy with Iain Corbett, and both his leadership and experience will be a huge loss to the dressing room.
