Drom Broadford regain their Intermediate title and earn promotion after outlasting Oola in decider

Drom Broadford will play in the Limerick Ladies Senior Football Championship next year after beating Oola in the Intermediate Final today at the TUS Gaelic Grounds.

Drom Broadford regained their Intermediate crown after outlasting Oola 1-9 to 1-6 in the Gaelic Grounds this afternoon.

A final quarter surge was the difference for the West ladies who earn promotion to the top tier after being denied in 2020 due to Covid 19.

Kathleen Bradshaw had the first score straight from the throw in from Oola who were keen to make up for lost time having lost five successive semi-finals coming into the 2021 season.

But the defending champions hit back as first Laura Stack found the target before Aine Cunningham and Sarah Sheehan added scores with Drom moving 0-3 to 0-1 in front.

Emma Kennedy replied with a brilliant score for Oola, driving at the Drom rearguard but the response was emphatic from the 2020 champions as Stack found the net to give them a four point cushion which was out to five at the first water break.

But despite Drom’s dominance, Oola found their way back into the game after 24 minutes as Bradshaw finished to the net after a flowing move.

The lead was 1-5 to 1-2 in Drom’s favour at the half but this was wiped out immediately as Lainey Stokes palmed to the net for their second score and a leveller.

Oola then regained the lead through Gemma O’Dwyer for the first time since the first minute with 13 to play.

But the East side wouldn’t score again until injury time as Drom Broadford reestablished their dominance.

It was all square when the ref called for the final water break and Stack had them one up as the clock ticked into the 54th minute.

Clodagh Reidy and Stack had them three clear as Saoirse McCarthy made it a four point game.

Oola did grab the final score of the day but in the end it proved too little too late as Drom earned promotion to the senior grade with a second successive win in the Intermediate ranks.
