Duff Leaves Role as Ireland Coach

Damien Duff has announced that he has left his role as Ireland coach with immediate effect. The FAI announced the move on their official Twitter page late on Friday night.

Duff had joined Stephen Kenny’s backroom team in April 2020 following a spell with Scottish Premiership side Celtic and has had a tough and eventful time in the role as the Irish team have struggled for goals and form.

The former Irish winger who played with Blackburn, Chelsea, Fulham and Newcastle during his distinguished career, worked alongside Keith Andrews during his 9 months with the squad and wished the team well for the future.

“I want to thank Stephen Kenny for the opportunity he gave me to coach with the senior Ireland team and I wish Stephen, Keith and the players all the very best of luck for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.”

Stephen Kenny thanked Duff for his contribution.

“Damien is an excellent coach as he proved in his time with us and his contribution to the Irish team was greatly appreciated by myself, my staff and the players and I wish him the very best of luck for the future.”
