Munster Director of Rugby Rassie Erasmus has told RTÉ Sport that he is hopeful Munster’s “really competitive” contract offer to Simon Zebo will be enough to beat off any interest from other clubs.
Zebo is not on a national contract and in the last year of his current Munster deal. His contract situation will no doubt attract plenty interest from abroad, particularly France.
The 27 year old is a fluent French speaker and has been key part of the Munster back line sine making his debut in 2010.
Top14 side Pau are the latest French side attempting to lure Zebo away from Munster. The French outfit are coached by former Munster backs coach Simon Mannix who worked alongside Rob Penny at he province.
Mannix has form for perusing Munster players and has successfully brought James Coughlan, Paddy Butler and Sean Dougall to the Pyrenees based club.
Despite the French interest, Rassie Erasmus told RTÉ Sport that Munster have made Zebo a competitive offer.
“There are so many things that players are talking to other clubs, some of it gets to the media, some of it doesn’t, obviously it got to the media about Simon.
“We made him a really competitive offer. If I was him, it is would certainly be an offer I would really consider.
“We really want to keep him. At this stage he is the guy to make that decision.”
