First half dominance helps Limerick cruise past Waterford

Limerick’s senior footballers are into the Munster SFC semi-final following a 2-14 to 0-9 victory over Waterford at Fraher Field.

First half goals from Cillian Fahy and Adrian Enright helped Limerick into a dominant 2-5 to 0-4 half time advantage.

The control continued in the second half despite playing into a strong breeze and they earned a comfortable 11-point win.

Conor Murray had put Waterford in front but Limerick responded through Fahy’s goal. The Drom-Broadford man finishing low into the net after a slick team move.

Limerick followed up with four points on the trot from Iain Corbett, Tony McCarthy and two Hugh Bourke efforts before Enright nabbed their second goal.

A stunning Corbett pass found Fahy and he hand passed the ball across the square to Enright who was left with the easiest of finishes.

Both sides struggled with the disastrous conditions in the next quarter but it was Limerick that eventually got the first score after the water break through Fahy.

That helped Limerick to a seven-point lead at the break and Gordon Brown soon had that at eight when he popped over the first score of the second half.

Limerick continued to dictate the pace of the game throughout and further scores from Bourke (2) and Sean McSweeney saw them 2-9 to 0-4 ahead at the second water break.

Lee rung the changes in the final quarter but Limerick kept up the pace and finished the game off in style with sub Davy Lyons firing over the final two points.
