Former Ireland U20s prop Ben Betts has been loaned out to Sydney University.
The former Ireland U20 tighthead Ben Betts will spend the summer in Australia on loan to Sydney University but he will return to Leicester Tigers next season.
The young front row impressed when he played for Ireland at the Junior World cup last year, helping his side to reach the final but on the day lost to England. His team beat New Zealand for the first time in the tournament along the way.
Betts, who hails from Ballyhahill and was part of Munster’s sub-academy, having played with Estuary RFC and Young Munster RFC but did not get into the full academy.
At the time Betts was into his first year studying English and History in UL but differed his course and took up an offer of playing for English Premiership side Leicester Tigers. He made two replacements for the club senior side this season.
Betts who is keen to improve his rugby development, decided to go to Australia and join the Sydney University.
Sydneys Uni season starts early august with the grand final which is played normally around the 26th of the same month.
Betts will return to Leicester next season but will be enjoying the season ahead in Australia.
