Former Limerick FC and Galway United defender Sam Oji passes away at just 35

Former Limerick FC and Galway United centre-back Samuel Oji has died at the age of 35.

The Englishman had spent three years in Ireland from 2013 after playing for numerous English clubs such as Birmingham City, Leyton Orient and Doncaster Rovers.

After coming through the youth ranks at Arsenal, Oji signed for Limerick FC in 2013 before signing for Galway United two years later in 2015.

When his time in Ireland’s SSE Airtricity League Premier Division came to an end in 2016 he had earned an impressive 57 appearances.

Oji concluded his playing career with England’s Highgate United, where he was appointed assistant manager to Simon Johnson.

Since the news of Oji’s passing broke, tributes from his former clubs and teammates have pored in for this talented and well respected player.

All at Sporting Limerick are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Samuel Oji and our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
