Fr Caseys end thirteen year wait for knockout win as Monaleen also secure SFC semi-final berth

Both sides came through their respective Limerick SFC quarter-finals today.

Fr Caseys and Monaleen booked their places alongside Newcastle West and Adare in the Limerick SFC semi-finals today.

Fr Caseys proved too strong for last year’s Intermediate champions Kildimo Pallaskenry while Monaleen overcame St Kierans in the other quarter.

In Newcastle West, Caseys scoring power was enough for a 1-14 to 0-8 win over the City side. The writing was on the wall early on for KP with Rory O’Brien and Martin Scannell causing trouble from the off.

O’Brien in particular was in fine form with three first half scores from play. Scannell added four from frees with the majority won by O’Brien. That was enough for a 0-7 to 0-2 lead at the half with Darren O’Connell grabbing both for KP.

O’Brien put the game to bed inside five minutes of the restart, winning possession on the sideline before powering past the KP rearguard and finishing to the corner of the net. That pushed them eight clear but Kildimo Pallaskenry to their credit continued to battle with scores from Tony McCarthy and O’Connell reducing the gap to six.

But with Scannell substitited, Dylan Quirke took over the scoring duties, adding four himself down the stretch with Caseys comfortable for a finish.

Meanwhile, Monaleen held off the challenge of St Kierans to book a semi-final spot for the second successive season with a 0-8 to 0-6 win.

The City side had the first three scores of the day which was enough for a 0-5 to 0-4 lead at the interval. However, they did have a man sent off just prior to the half but added to their advantage, moving three clear inside six minutes of the restart.

They wouldn’t score again until injury time, shortly after Kierans had pulled within one and held on for the win.

The final four ties will take place on the weekend of October 15/16.
