Friday Night Round Up | Monaleen advance in SFC as Mountcollins knockout Athea in PJFC

There were two games played in the Limerick Football Championships on Friday night.

In the first of the Limerick SFC quarter-finals Monaleen progressed at the expense of Fr Caseys, defeating the West side 2-8 to 1-7 in the LIT Gaelic Grounds.

Monaleen’s lead at the break was one but it was Fr Caseys who started the brighter, moving into an early two point lead which was 0-3 to 0-1 at the first water break.

A Ross Kennedy goal after 20 minutes gave Monaleen their first lead of the day with the score 1-4 to 0-6 in their favour at the short whistle.

Kennedy grabbed his second quickly after the restart but Robert Browne replied with a goal of his own for Caseys with the sides level for the first time with twenty to play,

Monaleen had the final score of the quarter and they wouldn’t trail again, taking the narrowest of leads into the waterbreak, but outscoring their opponents 0-4 to 0-1 in the final fifteen.

There is two other games in the SFC today with Oola taking on Galtee Gaels in the quarter-finals and Na Piarsaigh meeting St Kieran in the relegation semi-finals.

Elsewhere, Mountcollins beat west rivals Athea 0-8 to 0-7 in the Premier Junior quarter-final while Rathkeale overcame Drom Broadford 0-11 to 1-5 in the IFC quarter-final on Thursday.

In total there are five games down for decision in the top three tiers of Limerick football today.
