GAA Moments of the Year | Kyle Hayes’ greatest goal of all-time contender

As 2021 draws to a close, Jack Neville looks back on some of the most memorable GAA moments of the year.

While the year proved largely forgettable for most as the pandemic continued to grip the world, for the fans of Limerick GAA, there was a number of incredible moments throughout 2021 that will live long in the memory

And ahead of the new year, look back at some of the most memorable.

Limerick GAA’s Moments of the Year.

Today, that Kyle Hayes goal is looked at.

“Goal of the year and it’s only July!”

Marty Morrissey

Marty Morrissey’s proclamation during the Munster final is still so fitting months on as Kyle Hayes delivered a goal of the century contender in Limerick’s provincial victory over Tipperary in a glorious Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

With Limerick ten down at the break, Hayes’ effort came on 53 minutes, with the Shannonsiders turning the game on its head as the goal pulled them five clear.

Collecting the ball inside his own 65’ Hayes set out on a run that will forever be etched in the minds of all who witnessed it.

Two solos, two hops, two dropped shoulders, 100 yards and one batted strike later and the ball was hitting the net with Hayes displaying every bit of his awe inspiring pace and power.

A strike that is difficult to do justice with words, so here’s the video.

And not only was it an exceptional goal, it almost put the final nail in the Tipp coffin as Limerick strolled to victory from here on in.
