GAA regains Elite status and is set for May return under latest ‘Living with Covid’ plan

The GAA will have to wait until the country moves into a Level 4 lockdown before the resumption of activities after the latest Living with Covid plan was announced last night.

With the situation to be assessed at the outset of April, it is hopeful that intercounty players will be able to return to training that month before the start of the season a month later.

The GAA appears to have regained its elite status which it lost at the conclusion of last year’s championship as ‘inter-county’ is paired with professional sports, elite sports, horse racing in being permitted to return behind closed doors when the country moves into Level 4 lockdown.

Under Level 4 lockdown, training outdoors of up to 15 people is permitted. In Level 3, the return of senior club championships is also permitted.

The situation is to be revised in advance of April 5, the earliest date for a move into Level 4.
