Galbally and Bruff claim Premier U19 County titles

The deciders in both hurling and football were played last night in Caherconlish and Rathkeale respectively.

Bruff were last night crowned the Limerick Premier U19 Hurling Champions while Galbally won the football equivalent in Mick Neville Park.

Bruff were 2-19 to 1-14 winners against Monaleen while Galbally saw off Mungret St Pauls with a 0-10 to 1-5 victory.

In Caherconlish, a powerful second half saw Bruff to victory after the trailed 1-9 to 0-8 at the break.

In a nip and tuck first half, a Max Ivory goal was the difference between the teams at the interval. But Bruff were level ten minutes into the second half as Diarmuid Dennehy hit the net. That had the teams all square at 1-12 apiece with twenty to play.

Three minutes later, U16 Poc Fada runner up Tadhg Boddy raised a green flag and from here the South side powered to victory.

For Monaleen it was a second successive defeat in the final after they were beaten at the same stage by Ballybrown in 2021.

In Mick Neville Park for the football decider, a low scoring first half saw the teams split the first four scores with Darragh Bridgeman giving the City side some daylight, palming to the net in the 17th minute.

Mungret had the next point and could have been further ahead only for a penalty miss. That allowed Galbally back into the game as they trailed 1-3 to 0-3 at the interval.

Again the sides went score for score as Mungret St Pauls missed a second penalty. Still they led by three heading into the final ten minutes.

But the City side wouldn’t register a score in the last twenty minutes of the game as five on the bounce from Galbally swung the contest to dethrone the 2021 champions.
