Galvin returns to 7s squad for Dubai series

UL Bohs star Louise Galvin is one of four Munster players named in Ireland’s squad for the second leg of the World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series in Dubai this coming Thursday.

Galvin returns to the squad after missing the first round of the series and is joined in the travelling party by fellow Munster players Aoife Doyle, Aimee-Leigh Murphy Crowe and Deirbhile Nic a Bhaird. The Irish squad will be captained by Lucy Mulhall.

After finishing sixth in the opening series, Ireland’s Head Coach Anthony Eddy said his charges are excited about what’s ahead of them.

“We are all looking forward to the tournament, the girls have had a good preparation and I think they are now just excited about playing again and competing at this level.

“The Dubai Sevens is a great event on the World Series circuit – there’s always a great atmosphere and there is always a good turnout of Irish supporters, so I know the players are looking forward to the competition and showing what they can do.”

Ireland will play Russia, New Zealand and Kenya in their games on Thursday, with playoffs taking place the following day.

Eddy has also named his 7s Development Squad that will play in the Dubai Invitational, also on Thursday, and there is a place for recently capped at 15 a side level, Laura Sheehan.

The pacey UL Bohs winger played against both the USA and England over the last couple of weeks and is a highly regarded prospect. Munster’s Claire Keohane will captain the squad and the province will also be represented by Mallow’s Emily Lane and Fethard’s Dorothy Wall.
