Garryowen and Young Munster earn vital AIL wins

It was a good weekend for Garryowen and Young Munster but Shannon slipped into the relegation playoff after losing to Clontarf.

Shannon have now lost five games on the bounce after Saturday’s 45-14 loss at Castle Avenue.

Tom Hayes’ men were 21-14 down at the break, but ‘Tarf hit fine form in the second half to earn a massive victory.

Ben Daly and Luke Moylan got the tries for Shannon. Daly and Jack Stafford landed the conversions.

Garryowen’s hopes of a playoff place received a major boost with a 24-14 win against UCD at Belfield.

The victory puts the Light Blues just one point off third placed Dublin University.

Tries from Rob Guerin, Andrew Keating and a penalty try helped them to the 10-point winning margin.

Young Munster jumped into seventh place in Division 1A of the AIL following 24-18 win over Dublin University at Tom Clifford Park.

Gearoid Prendergast’s side ran in for four tries in a win that saw them leapfrog Shannon and UCC.

Jack Lyons, Conor Mitchell, Keynan Knox and Conor Phillips all crossed in the vital victory.

In Division 2A, Old Crescent beat Navan 17-14, while UL Bohs emerged with a 30-18 win in their game with Blackrock.

Meanwhile in Division 2C, Bruff’s promotion hopes were dented after a 37-20 loss to top of the table Ballina.

Thomond remain routed to the bottom of the division following a 24-15 defeat at home to Seapoint.
