High flying Ballynanty Rovers lead the way in the early stages

It was a disappointing weekend for the premier division in Limerick junior soccer as one game was abandoned, one team received a walkover and one game was a very one sided affair. Referee Nigel Casey abandoned the clash between Prospect Priory and Carew Park while Charleville did not fulfil their fixture with reigning champions Janesboro.

Ballynanty Rovers hold a 100% record in the PJ Matthews Premier League after four games following an impressive 3-1 win over Regional United. Goals from Eddie Byrnes and Aaron Nunan sent the Northside club on their way. Manager Donal McGhee will be delighted with the start his side has made to the campaign following victories against both newly promoted Prospect Priory and Nenagh. They will host Aisling Annacotty in Shelbourne Park this coming Thursday as they look to extend their winning run.

Pike Rovers and Fairview renewed rivalries at Crossagalla on Sunday morning and both came away with a share of the spoils. Paul Danaher equalised for Jason Purcell’s side with ten minutes remaining after Eoin Hanrahan had given Pike the lead. Mick Sheil’s Munster Junior Cup winning side remain in second place with three wins from four ahead of a tough assignment on Thursday evening against Regional United at Dooradoyle.

Fairview are two points further back with two wins from four and they remain unbeaten ahead of a huge test against free-scoring Janesboro at the Fairgreen. With the capture of players such as ex-Limerick goalkeeper Barry Ryan, Paudie Quinn and Colin Scanlon, Fairview will provide stiff opposition for any team in the division.

Geraldines and Nenagh played out a 2-2 draw at the Garryowen Green on Sunday despite leading through Ian O’Donoghue and Donie Curtin goals. Aisling Annacotty inflicted a heavy 7-1 defeat on Killmallock although the visitors were missing up to ten first team players for the encounter. Aisling travel to table toppers Ballynanty on Thursday evening while Kilmallock face Geraldines at home. Prospect make the long trip to Charleville and Carew Park travel to Nenagh. All games kick off at 6.30 on Thursday evening.
