Cillian Fahy struck at the death to send Limerick through to a first McGrath Cup final since 2020.
Limerick left it late but secured their place in this Friday’s McGrath Cup final against Cork with a 1-13 to 2-10 draw against Tipperary in Fethard on Saturday afternoon.
In difficult conditions, Tipperary looked like they had stolen victory late on with a goal but Cillian Fahy was on hand in the seventh minute of injury time to earn a draw and a final spot.
Limerick found the first goal midway through the first period, Cian Sheehan setting Gordon Brown through with a wonderful pass as the Na Piarsaigh man did the rest.
But Tipp hit the net on the half hour mark, Sean O’Connor blasting home to give them their first lead of the afternoon. Davy Lyons had a mark immediately after to make it 1-6 apiece at the interval.
The second half continued in this vein with the sides trading scores. Peter Nash and Donal O’Sullivan had Limerick two clear with ten to play but Tipp pounced in injury time for their second goal.
However, they were powerless to stop Fahy from slotting over and ensuring a date with Cork this Friday.
